Author, Phi Beta Kappa and athlete Sara Matson Galope worked in Prison Ministry for a decade.

A Pasadena, California native, Sara received her Bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1997 and her Master’s degree in criminal justice in 1998, both from Washington State University.  She is a member of several academic honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa and is a lifelong member of the WSU Alumni Association.

After doing prison ministry for 10 years, Sara earned her Associate’s degree in small business administration from Strayer University in Washington, D.C., and graduated with the honor of Summa Cum Laude.  Her ultimate goal is to open her own business.

Sara is a published writer in The Bleacher Report and author of the children’s book, Memoirs of Inmate 51719.  She is a gym rat who is also an avid snowboarder (She made her pilgrimage to Whistler last year), a scrappy softball player (She faithfully bat lead-off for Portland’s 2-time champion co-ed softball teams in 2006 & 2008), and a middle-of-the-pack runner (She recently ran Boston’s Run To Remember half marathon).

Sara is the happy owner of rental property in San Diego, has been a member of Toastmasters International since 2011, and is a fiercely loyal Dodger fan.  She is a member of the handbell choir at First Lutheran Church in Portland, where she is also the secretary for the Natural Church Development committee, the Vice President of the church council, and the newest editor of the church newsletter.

Sara has been a Ron Paul supporter since 2008.  In May 2012, she served as a delegate to the Maine Republican Convention, where she was proudly elected as an alternate at-large delegate to the Republican National Convention.
